Michele Holland
Michele Holland is an emerging artist whose passion for art is a reflection of her outlook on life. Born and raised in Alberta, Michele started her formal education in 1979. She has studied Fine Art & Design at Grant MacEwan College, the University of Alberta and the Alberta College of Art + Design. She is recognized for her ability to see and apply colour.

My passion for painting comes from a desire to observe, understand and capture the essence of an object. There is something unique in everything. My canvas gives me a place to explore and discover that uniqueness. It is this journey of revelation and discovery that is at the core of my work. Looking beyond the superficial allows me to break my subject down into its most basic elements of light and color. I am fascinated with color: layering and mixing it, then applying bold, dynamic marks that create a natural expression. For me, the image is most compelling when a simple brush stroke adds depth and texture without adding complexity or creating a distraction within the work.
Michele has studied Fine Art and Design at Grant MacEwan College, the University of Alberta and ACAD. Although she has been an artist all her life, she has been painting full-time for the past 5 years. She lives in Calgary with her husband and 3 daughters.
