When people ask me what I do, I tell them that I am living my dream. I opened Swirl Fine Art and Design to share my passion of art with the community. Ten years of experience in the Interior Design industry influenced my love for color and composition and my formal education in business enhanced my ability to market the artists that I represent.
I am a third generation Calgarian and taught myself how to paint mainly through trial, error and experimentation. I think a painting should lure you in, stir up your emotions, and carry you away. With inspiration from the natural world, I become transfixed in the process of pulling textures over one another and pushing shapes around as an image emerges from an explosive tempest of movement. Kitchen utensils, rags and gadgets provide an infinite versatility to creating a sensuous surface of richly applied materials. There are endless possibilities for creating a surface with the right combination of organic materials; paper; moulding mediums; Venetian plaster and/or wax encaustic. Once an engaging composition of texture emerges, I focus on the drama of light by applying layers of dynamic color.
